The contemporary dance ensemble of the Staatstheater Mainz consists of 21 dancers and has been directed by Honne Dohrmann in collaboration with in-house choreographer Guy Weizman since 2014.
The ensemble's repertoire consists exclusively of its own creations: selected choreographers are invited to Mainz for world premieres and work with the Mainz ensemble to develop new pieces. Tanzmainz is characterized by a wide range of styles. In recent years, choreographers have included Guy Nader and Maria Campos, who won the German theater award DER FAUST 2017 for their Mainz work "Fall Seven Times."
The ensemble succeeds in keeping the great enthusiasm for contemporary dance alive in Mainz and the surrounding area. With regular guest performances at home and abroad, tanzmainz sees itself as an ambassador for the city and region.
