As a historic cellar building, the Winzerkeller authentically embodies a piece of history of the red wine town. It has become a tourist attraction for the wine experience in Ingelheim. After extensive renovation, the listed building has been home to a local wine shop with 24 Ingelheim winegrowers and a distillery, a restaurant, and the tourist information office since 2019.
Rheinhessen limestone, original tiles, and beams in the former wine press hall—now an indoor garden—as well as the two large vaulted cellars, one above the other, where wood-carved barrels tell the stories of previous generations of winemakers, are waiting to be discovered.
The jury believes that IKUM (Ingelheimer Kultur und Marketing GmbH) has created a unique ensemble on historic grounds with the Ingelheim wine cellar and has rewarded it with a Best Of Wine Tourism Award 2020. The wine cellar also impressed internationally, receiving the global award from the international jury in Bordeaux (November 7, 2019).
