Civil defense - Disaster control

The tasks of the federal government in disaster control are carried out by the units of the federal states in accordance with Section 11 ZSKG. The federal government supplements the measures of the federal states by providing resources, equipment, personnel or infrastructure.

These include:

  • Federal Office for Civil Protection and Disaster Assistance (BBK) with the Joint Reporting and Situation Center
  • Federal Academy for Civil Protection and Civil Defense (BABZ) 
  • Federal Agency for Technical Relief (THW) 
  • Medical Task Force (MTF)
  • Analytical Task Force (ATF)

  • Executive Board, 8 state chapters, 66 regional offices, 668 local chapters
  • Approx. 80,000 volunteers
  • Technical units, specialized groups, specialized units for command and communications

Medical Task Forces (MTF)

An MTF consists of five subunits: 

  • Command Group
  • Decontamination platoon for casualties
  • Medical Response Team
  • Patient transport team
  • Logistics platoon

In total, an MTF consists of 126 personnel and 24 vehicles.
