Meenzer Sommerstraßen: More space for play, encounters and quality of life!

The state capital of Mainz is once again calling for participation in the "Meenzer Sommerstraßen". Following the success of previous years, streets will once again be transformed into temporary places to meet, play and enjoy life in 2026.

Janina Steinkrüger, Commissioner for the Environment and Mobility: “The concept behind the Meenzer Sommerstraße is simple and effective. Streets are temporarily closed to through traffic and parking, transforming into lively gathering places right in the heart of the neighborhood, where children can play and neighbors can come together to collaboratively create a livable street environment. I would like to encourage the people of Mainz to share their ideas, bring neighborhoods together, and work together to explore how quality of life can be shaped right on their own doorsteps.”

The Meenzer Summer Streets are part of Mainz’s path toward greater climate protection and livable mobility. As a component of the “100% Climate Protection Master Plan,” they contribute to making Mainz climate-neutral by 2035 while significantly improving the quality of life in the city’s neighborhoods.

Important to note: Access for emergency vehicles, people with limited mobility, and to private parking spaces will, of course, remain guaranteed at all times.

Now it’s up to the citizens: Anyone who has ideas for their own street, wants to bring neighbors together, or create a new meeting place can find out more and get involved starting now.
