Meenzer summer streets
We want the same in our neighborhood!
With the Meenzer Sommerstraßen, sections of road are closed to through traffic for a limited period of time. Public parking spaces are also kept free.
This makes the summer streets a place for children to play and a meeting place for the neighborhood.

Background
Mainz is a city of diversity – this is reflected in its wide range of cultural, educational, work, and leisure activities, as well as in the mix of modes of transport used by people moving around the city. In addition to cars, eco-friendly modes of transport such as cycling, walking, and public transport are playing an increasingly important role, although this is not yet reflected in many of Mainz's streets. Here, people largely share the available space with parked cars, leaving little room for recreational activities.
As already became clear during the "1st Meenzer Neighborhood Street" in the summer of 2023, this public space can also be made available to citizens as a recreational area through temporary repurposing. It allows people to try out more livable streets and experience social interaction. This also creates a forum for discussion on the enhancement of potential open spaces and urban design.
The Mainz Summer Streets are also part of the 100% Climate Protection Master Plan, which was developed with the goal of achieving climate neutrality in the state capital of Mainz by 2035.
Note
Meenzer Sommerstraßen are streets that are closed to traffic for a certain period of time. If events that attract large crowds are planned in addition to sports and games, an event permit must be applied for from the Office for Public Safety and Order.
