Strategy for adapting to climate change

Mainz is adapting - Find out more about the development of Mainz's strategy for adapting to climate change.

A project group was set up within the city administration in spring 2023 to develop Mainz's climate change adaptation strategy and subsequently implement it. The process of creating an integrated adaptation strategy required clear management on the part of the city administration, with the Parks and Environment Department taking on the technical and strategic project management. The project management team was supported by a team of external service providers.

In addition, a core team of representatives from the city administration provided support on technical and organizational issues.

The complex task of "climate impact adaptation in the city of Mainz" was handled by subject-specific working groups composed of representatives from the city administration, politicians, multipliers from civil society, and other stakeholders.

The coordination of all stakeholder groups and processes was carried out under the leadership of the Parks and Environment Department.

The 24 key measures developed will be implemented starting in April 2025. Progress in implementation will be evaluated regularly, and the strategy will be updated after five years.
