Digital monitoring tool for climate adaptation and heat prevention in Mainz

The state capital of Mainz is focusing on digital innovation to effectively address the challenges of climate change. As part of a new project, a web-based monitoring tool is being developed to support the planning, implementation, and evaluation of climate adaptation measures—with a particular focus on heat prevention in neighborhoods and buildings.

The tool is designed to enable municipal authorities to efficiently record climate adaptation measures, visualize their effectiveness, and develop them further on the basis of data. The aim is to strengthen the city's climate resilience in the long term and promote exchange between the administration, science, and urban society.

By transparently presenting progress and results, the project contributes to developing sustainable solutions for future climate challenges and specifically improving heat protection in Mainz.

The project is funded as part of the "Experimental Housing and Urban Development" (ExWoSt) research program of the Federal Ministry of Housing, Urban Development, and Building (BMWSB) and the Federal Institute for Research on Building, Urban Affairs, and Spatial Development (BBSR).
