As a resident, you can apply for a resident parking permit for your car, motorcycle, or any other motor vehicle you use on a permanent basis. The resident parking permit is only valid for a specially designated zone (resident parking area).

• You are registered with the local authorities in the residents' parking area and you actually live there
• You do not have a private parking space.
• The vehicle is registered to you or you use the vehicle on a permanent basis.

The resident parking permit is valid for a limited period of time, but can be renewed upon expiration.

• Current identity card or passport with current registration confirmation
• Registration certificate part I (formerly: vehicle registration document)
• Certificate of use if the applicant is not the vehicle owner
• If the application is made by a representative
  • Power of attorney

Additional documents may be required.

Adjustment of the fee schedule for issuing parking permits for residents as of July 1, 2025

The state capital of Mainz would like to remind residents of the changes to the fee schedule for resident parking. The new fee schedule was approved by the city council on April 9, 2025. This regulation will come into effect on July 1, 2025. 

The application procedure remains the same. The permit is valid for one year, but can be withdrawn or partially refunded.

The permits issued remain valid until their expiry date. You can apply for a new parking permit 4 weeks before your current permit expires.

The new fee is based on an annual base fee of €31.20, which is multiplied by the length and width of the vehicle. The basis for this is fields 18 and 19 of the vehicle registration certificate.

• Citizens' office/local administration: Cash or EC card payment
• Road traffic authority: Bank transfer, also by direct debit for written applications
• Online application: Direct debit
