With the Meenzer Sommer- und Nachbarschaftsstraßen (Mainz Summer and Neighborhood Streets), sections of roads are temporarily closed to through traffic. Public parking spaces are also kept free. This makes public spaces available for children to play in and for the neighborhood to use as a meeting place and place to spend time.

At the suggestion of local residents, a temporary summer street or neighborhood street can be set up after all documents have been submitted and reviewed, and the administration can close it to through traffic and parking in public spaces. These projects are possible throughout the year. Since May 2023, numerous summer streets have already been implemented in various districts.
