Master Plan 100% Climate Protection

The state capital Mainz has been a master plan municipality since 2016 and participates in the Excellence Initiative for particularly ambitious municipalities initiated by the Federal Ministry for the Environment. Master plan municipalities commit to reducing their greenhouse gas emissions by 95 percent by 2050 compared to 1990 levels and halving their final energy consumption during this period. The 2017 Master Plan 100% Climate Protection concept provides the strategic basis for the path to climate neutrality.

1st update (2021 / 2022)

The first update to the 100% Climate Protection Master Plan, including the revised catalog of measures 2.0, was approved by the city council on November 30, 2022 (Resolution 1423/2022 (opens in a new tab)). The update took place five years after the original concept was published in 2017, with the participation of the urban community.
