Mainz cult pub awakens to new life
Since the 1960s, the Bierstübchen has been located in the shadow of the cathedral. True Mainz residents know it as a small, charming pub on Fischtorstraße, where Mainz conviviality is lived to the fullest. For decades, the pub was family-owned until the owner retired a few months ago and three young men took over the cult pub and carefully modernized it.
The three friends Niklas Fiebach, Daniel Sieben, and Niklas Rieder have given the tried-and-tested concept a new twist. They have retained the cozy regulars' bar and at the same time opened the beer garden for day-to-day business and a younger crowd. The bar offers a wide selection of regional drinks from large and small brands, as well as snacks for when you're feeling peckish.
The rustic interior with its wooden bar and relatively small floor space has remained unchanged. This encourages interaction between guests. "Different groups often mix here," says Niklas Fiebach, pointing to the tables at the back of the pub. The traditional pub business is complemented by new events such as a soccer quiz and regular beer tastings by the Schwarze Rose brewery, which brings its own beers. It is also possible to rent the Bierstübchen as an event location for private parties.
