Growing together - 75 years of Rhineland-Palatinate and Mainz
The federal state of Rhineland-Palatinate was founded in 1946. The Mainz City Archives took the state's 75th anniversary as an opportunity to trace the history of the relationship between the federal state and its capital, Mainz, in a photo exhibition.
The photo exhibition chronicles Mainz's post-war history from 1946 to the present day. The outstanding photographs taken by Mainz press photographer Klaus Benz, whose estate has been preserved in the city archives since 2022, are of particular historical value.
We tell the story of Mainz as the state capital in 17 chapters. This allows you to select individual chapters or work through them chronologically.
