The muna Kollektiv e. V. and the University Library jointly invite you to this special closing event for the exhibition.

The event begins with a guided tour of the exhibition, followed by a reading by Franziska Herbert from her work “Dekonstrukte.” Herbert is pursuing a master’s degree at the Offenbach University of Art and Design, specializing in graphic design and text—and has developed a unique approach that blends typography and autobiographical writing. 

In her short stories, she explores personal themes such as separation, mental health, and family relationships. In “Dekonstrukte,” Herbert recounts the life of her grandmother, who suffers from dementia. The sentences in the text were subsequently sorted by length, thereby losing any sense of chronology. Yet, just as in the experience of a person with dementia, moments of clarity still flash by from time to time when two consecutive sentences suddenly fit together. 

Since the grandmother herself no longer speaks, the text focuses on the loss of one’s own language: the sentences grow progressively shorter until, in the end, only fragments remain. A reading that moves the reader—and reexamines one’s own perception of language, memory, and loss.

The exhibition “schlechte Zeiten, schlechte Zeiten” is on view at the Wissenschaftliche Stadtbibliothek through August 21. The closing event offers the last opportunity to experience the exhibition with an expert-led tour and to gain a very special artistic perspective on a deeply human theme.
