No overbuilding of fiber optic infrastructure in Laubenheim and Weisenau
For the state capital of Mainz, the expansion of the fiber optic infrastructure is one of the key projects for the future in order to provide citizens with fast and reliable Internet connections. In addition to providing fiber optic connections, the city administration and telecommunications companies are also keen to ensure the most effective expansion possible.
To avoid duplicate infrastructure development, Westconnect and OXG have agreed to divide the expansion of the two districts, Mainz-Laubenheim and Mainz-Weisenau, between them. Westconnect is focusing its resources on expanding the fiber-optic network in Laubenheim, while OXG is expanding its fiber-optic infrastructure in Weisenau.
“We welcome the decision by Westconnect and OXG to focus on one of the two districts each to provide residents with free fiber-optic connections. This is in the interest of conserving resources and the environment, as well as avoiding additional construction sites,” explains Manuela Matz, Head of the Economic Affairs Department.
Customers will receive information about the adjusted expansion strategy directly from their respective infrastructure providers. Contact information for Westconnect and OXG, as well as details on fiber-optic expansion in Mainz, are available on the website mainz.de/breitband.
