Investment management

In the state capital of Mainz, a large proportion of public services are provided by municipal companies and holdings; these must be managed economically and run in such a way that the public purpose is fulfilled in a sustainable manner. The City Council decides on the establishment or dissolution of commercial enterprises.

Investments of the state capital Mainz

The state capital of Mainz currently participates in 14 legally independent companies and their affiliated companies, two public-law institutions, several special-purpose associations, including the Sparkasse special-purpose association, and three economically independent but legally dependent municipal enterprises in order to carry out its economic activities. The current investment report, which is available for download free of charge on this page, provides information on the public purpose and economic situation of the various companies. With the founding of Zentrale Beteiligungsgesellschaft der Stadt Mainz mbH (ZBM) in September 2010, a holding company was created that acquires, establishes, sells, and manages companies and investments for the sole shareholder, the City of Mainz, whose corporate purpose is to fulfill public tasks for the state capital of Mainz. As part of the implementation of the master plan, ZBM is examining how the investment portfolio for the business areas of "urban development," "city marketing," "urban education & social affairs," and "urban supply and disposal" can be expanded in a meaningful way. The aim is to ensure the transparent and efficient implementation of the economic activities of the state capital of Mainz.
