Redesign of a green space in Mainz Marienborn
In Sophie-Christ-Straße in the industrial estate south of Essenheimer Straße (L 426) in Mainz-Marienborn, a new green space is being created - exactly where you can see the marked area on the aerial photo.
This area is already designated as green space in the zoning plan (see link at the bottom of the page). This means that no buildings or parking lots will be built here; instead, it will be a place to linger, relax, and socialize. The site is to be designed with as much greenery as possible, minimal paving, and a high quality of life for visitors.
On this website, we will keep you informed about the current status of the project, the next planning steps, and important milestones. We will also present the results of the public engagement process, planning considerations, and, as soon as they are available, design concepts.
Our goal is to make the planning process transparent and understandable and to keep you informed about the development of the green space. Please feel free to visit this website to stay up to date.
Citizen participation 2025
To ensure that the green space becomes a vibrant and inviting gathering place tailored to the needs of future users, the Department of Parks and the Environment conducted an online survey in the fall of 2025.
Public participation was a key component of the project. Numerous residents shared their wishes, ideas, and suggestions. This feedback was analyzed and forms an important basis for further planning.
Evaluation of the results of public participation
From October 13, 2025, to November 16, 2025, residents had the opportunity to share their wishes and suggestions regarding the design of the green space through an online survey. The survey consisted of 17 questions and also allowed participants to provide additional comments in free-text fields.
A total of 254 residents participated in the survey. This demonstrates the high level of interest among the public and future users in the design of the new green space. The participation reflects residents’ commitment and willingness to actively contribute to the development of public spaces.
The collected results serve as a valuable foundation for the project’s further development. The results are available for download at the bottom of the page. They were evaluated by the responsible planners at the Department of Parks and Environment and are now being incorporated into the ongoing planning of the green space. In this process, the feasibility of the citizens’ suggestions is being assessed, along with how best to integrate them into the overall plan. The results of the public participation process are published transparently in this document and via the project list of the State Capital of Mainz, so that all stakeholders can stay informed about progress.
