Collection-based research is at the heart of the museum’s scientific work. Together with the Rhineland-Palatinate State Collection of Natural History, the Natural History Museum maintains a research collection of approximately 2 million objects, most of which are regional in origin; as a research infrastructure for the scientific community, this collection plays a significant role in climate and biodiversity research.
