Bergschön Mainz - Cottage ambience at the cherry orchard

The decoration in the Bergschön is reminiscent of grandmother's kitchen.

Since April, a little bit of mountain life has found a home at Kirschgarten 21 in Mainz's old town. The new "Bergschön" is rustic yet modern and cozy, with simple wooden furniture, colorful cushions, and light-colored wall paneling. Decorative details such as the old rolling pin and wooden coffee grinders are reminiscent of grandma's kitchen. Small antlers on the wall and fur cushions on the chairs, on the other hand, are more reminiscent of a real mountain hut. "It is precisely this fine blend of old and new that brings a modern hut atmosphere to Mainz," explains managing director Sarah Abelmann. But why Alpine hut flair?

Bar area in the Bergschön

Bergschön had been located in the community center on Lerchenberg since 2013 and had to move out at the end of 2017 due to renovation work. "When we were planning the restaurant back then, we always talked about going 'up the mountain,' to Lerchenberg, that is. At some point, this became 'Bergschön', which also had a lasting influence on the interior design concept," says Abelmann. The concept survived the move and can now be found both at Bergschön Ingelheim (since December 2017) and at Bergschön am Kirschgarten.

Guests can expect "home-style cooking with a Mediterranean touch." In addition to the weekly changing lunch menu, there is a fixed restaurant menu in the evening. This is supplemented by daily recommendations, which can sometimes be a little more unusual. Where possible, the ingredients come from regional producers and are based on what is in season. Bergschön offers a total of 70 seats inside and around 50 seats outside – at the front and in the cozy backyard. If you want to stay between lunch and dinner, you can make yourself comfortable in various places and try out the selection of cakes.

The clientele at Bergschön is as diverse as the menu, explains the managing director. "There are the regulars from Lerchenberg, the professionals who come during their lunch break, the tourist groups passing through who need an English menu, the seniors who are discovering us for the first time, and the families with small children, for whom we have a small play area."
