mainzMagazin recommends: Enjoy coffee and do good at the same time

"We want to offer something special for every taste," say Sebastian Schulz and his team as they invite us in for coffee. The Mainz-based coffee and espresso bar has been located on Augustinerstraße since 2021. But the tradition goes back much further: the owner grew up with specialty drinks, and his family runs the Maldaner coffee house in Wiesbaden.
The coffee roastery is located there, in the western part of the city, and values artisanal processing, whether for classic or light roasts. The specialties are sold fresh as needed to cafés, restaurants, companies, and private customers. In Mainz's old town, you can get advice, experiment, and find your own favorite variety: should the coffee taste more like chocolate? Or fruity, with a floral note?
Beans are also available in glass bottles to take away, which reduces packaging. The socially conscious company also focuses on sustainability, transparency, and appreciation when it comes to the quality of its green coffee. This is sourced directly from ethical trade. "We are in personal contact with small farmers who are proud of their products and are paid fairly," explains Sebastian Schulz. Varieties are named after local contacts such as Germán or Laura. Maldaner also supports social projects. Gift certificates and gift sets are available, and workshops and tastings will soon be offered again.
