The sixth-generation chef at this traditional establishment is no stranger: Philipp Stein, who became Germany's youngest Michelin-starred chef in 2014, at that time for the Favorite restaurant, and who regularly provides TV Germany with recipes and tips on the ARD-Buffet program. He has been running Steins Traube in the Finthen district of Mainz with his wife Alina since August 2019. "Of course, the restaurant has been given our own 'touch'," says Philipp Stein, referring to the new façade and design. "Nevertheless, it is and remains a family business, with everyone pitching in. We stand for high-quality cuisine, which is what our guests expect, and we naturally fulfill this wish. But we are also close to our guests and have increased our staff so that we can respond to each individual."

Guests are sometimes taken to the wine cellar, where big names in impressive vintage depth, i.e., up to ten vintages of a wine, stand alongside new discoveries. Four wines from Stein's Traube, with their own label, are available exclusively here. All of them were created in cooperation with Rheinhessen winemakers. A sommelier advises guests and provides knowledge about wine and winemakers. "It often happens that a wine inspires me to create a new dish," says chef Stein, who describes his style as German-French. And this is also very well received beyond the city limits of Mainz. Therefore: Be sure to reserve in advance!
