The history books of FSV Mainz 05 are already brimming with thrilling soccer stories. Now, the FSV Mainz 05 women’s team has finally stepped into the spotlight this weekend and—following last year’s promotion to the 2. Bundesliga—added another sensational chapter to the 05 story: Coach Takashi Yamashita’s team won 5-0 at VfR Warbeyen, securing a direct path from the Regionalliga to the First League. The newly promoted second-division team thus climbs directly to the next level—the Women’s Bundesliga. Another milestone for FSV Mainz 05. Now both teams are competing in the top flight—and the youth teams are also playing at the national elite level. 

Next year, soccer giants such as VfL Wolfsburg, Bayern Munich, VfB Stuttgart once again, Hamburger SV, and Borussia Mönchengladbach—along with many other prominent names in German women’s soccer—will be lining up at Mainz’s Bruchweg Stadium; the Eintracht Frankfurt team will also be there.

Having two soccer teams in the top division is an immense asset for Mainz, a city of sports. This finally puts women’s soccer firmly in the spotlight in Mainz—something the team, the coaching staff, and the club have all earned.
