The Sports Department allocates and makes municipal sports facilities and gyms available for club sports. In addition, it plans and develops modern sports facilities, supports clubs with grants, advises clubs on these matters, informs citizens about relevant sports topics, and oversees sports development planning for the state capital of Mainz. It awards the Mainz Sports Prize and organizes city-sponsored sporting events such as the Mainz Three Bridges Run and the athletes’ awards ceremonies.
