Climate formation
Climate education is an essential part of environmental education in the state capital of Mainz.
This is not just about teaching skills related to climate protection and climate change. Children and young people, as well as their parents, should be empowered to change themselves and the society in which they live.
Whether it's what we eat every day, how we heat and ventilate our homes, how we travel to school, work or leisure activities, or what clothes or cell phones we buy – our lifestyle has many different impacts. The aim of this education is to understand complex global interrelationships, to be able to evaluate them, and to act accordingly.
To understand the challenges of climate change and climate adaptation, we need knowledge, skills, and willingness.

Education for sustainable development (ESD)
Climate education measures follow the model of Education for Sustainable Development (ESD). The aim of ESD is to enable people to assess how their own actions affect current and future generations and life in other parts of the world. It empowers children, young people, and adults to make informed decisions and act responsibly to protect the environment, promote a sustainable economy, and create a just society.
ESD changes learning and helps people learn better. Based on experiences in one's own environment, ESD integrates knowledge and skills for sustainable development. It opens up individual and social options for action and strengthens the ability to actively participate in society.
