The souperie - delicious food to spoon up
Note: An article from mainzMAGAZIN Fall/Winter 2018
Crisp, crunchy, fresh – that's the motto at Souperie in Große Langgasse, where they serve both hot and cold dishes. Only selected, locally grown ingredients – from market potatoes and field cucumbers to chives and Mainz meat sausage – make it onto the plate and, above all, into the pot. As the name "Souperie" suggests, derived from the English word "soup," owner Daniel Bauer specializes in soups. Accordingly, the motto here is: "When life gives you a spoon, eat soup!"
In keeping with the region's seasonal offerings, guests can enjoy a hearty lentil stew or a light mozzarella and tomato soup while looking out through the bright glass front onto the beautiful, newly designed island garden right outside the shop door. The menu also features internationally inspired variations such as Indian lentil cream soup and Asian carrot soup. New stew and soup creations are added every week, with a changing lunch menu. Daniel Bauer is always open to suggestions and food requests from his customers.
Those who prefer cold dishes can choose between colorful sesame, pizza, and whole-grain bagels, various types of bread from the Mayer country bakery, and crisp salads. Those with a sweet tooth are also guaranteed to find something to their liking: fluffy muffins for chocoholics or, as a lighter option, homemade quark with fruit and honey provide the perfect finishing touch.
