The landlady knows most of her guests by name and can serve their favorite wine without being asked: the atmosphere at the traditional Wilhelmi wine house is informal. Christina Schickert has been in her restaurant almost every day for nine years, only taking Sundays off during the summer months. But the boss isn't just an expert in hospitality. As a former winegrower's wife, she also knows her way around fine wines and personally buys her wines from the Rheingau and Rheinhessen regions. Meanwhile, her son Oliver and chef Tim Moser take care of the guests' culinary needs. The extensive menu features home-style cooking and Mainz specialties, including what is perhaps the best Handkäse in Mainz.

Apart from the culinary delights, it is above all the cozy atmosphere that makes the "Wilhelmi" so special. And locals and visitors alike appreciate this! Many a celebrity also ends the evening at the "Wilhelmi" after their performance in the neighboring Rheingoldhalle. Numerous photos on the walls bear witness to the famous guests. There's only one thing you can't do in one of Mainz's oldest wine bars: keep to yourself! In the wood-paneled, rustic dining room, you have to squeeze in close together to find a seat. But there are alternatives: either upstairs to the more spacious upper floor, which is also available for parties. Or outside in summer: Christina Schickert opens the doors to Spitalgasse and you can enjoy a glass of wine and Spundekäs surrounded by oleanders in an almost Mediterranean atmosphere.
