Am I standing in the forest now? You might think so: the long wall of the foyer at the Hofgut Wißberg – das Weinberghotel wine hotel is decorated with forest wallpaper, giving the room a natural design reminiscent of the countryside. In addition, the reception area shines with high-quality designer furniture from FREIFRAU – the layout impressively shows what guests can expect: quality in line with the green trend.
"We want to be recognizable; guests want to feel the region where they are vacationing!" explains Vladimir Saal. The Lower Franconian has been responsible for the hotel commitments of the Gemünden/Badrot family since summer 2021. "It is very important to us that the employees identify with the hotel and the concept," he emphasizes. "We sell quality and emotion."
Jennifer Fruet has been hotel manager at Wißberg since summer 2021. She finds it easy to identify with the concept: she comes from Rheinhessen. Jennifer particularly enjoys identifying guests' wishes and thus optimizing their satisfaction with their stay.
A sophisticated booking tool on the hotel website www.hofgut-wissberg.de helps them do this. When booking rooms online, guests can set eight filters to find their perfect room: not only can they select the size or type of bed, design and furnishings (forest, mist, flowers, plants) and location (ground floor, particularly quiet), but also the view: sunrise, midday sun, or vineyard view?
Hofgut Wißberg has used the coronavirus period to carry out extensive renovation work. After around 20 years in operation, the wine hotel has repositioned itself as a "first-class boutique hotel": from the end of March 2022, the historic building will have a new look. The 21-room hotel targets active vacationers who appreciate quality and executives who want to hold retreats in the countryside.
At 270 meters, the Wißberg is the second highest elevation in the Rhine-Hesse hills and offers a 360° view. The Via Vinea, an original wine trail, leads right past the hotel. Along the 3.5-kilometer hiking trail through the Wißberg nature reserve, there are 22 interactive stations, including a "grape variety garden," a fossil excavation site, a maze made of vineyard stakes, and a Kneipp facility.
For guests who want to explore the Rhine-Hesse region, the wine hotel has e-bikes available. Yoga or training sessions with a personal trainer in the vineyard are further holiday highlights. Regional wine naturally plays an important role at the wine hotel: in the lobby, a Trust wine bar exclusively for hotel guests invites you to enjoy a glass or two. Guests can choose from six red and six white wines from local vintners and take the wine by the bottle from the wine refrigerator. Those who enjoy Rheinhessen wine on the hotel terrace or in their hotel room will be pleased with the moderate prices.
Three rooms are available for family celebrations and conferences – wine tastings and seminars take place in the hotel's historic vaulted cellar. In the courtyard restaurant "gramms," Marie-Claire and Marko Gramms prepare regional dishes and offer appealing wines to accompany them.
The highlight of the Hofgut Wißberg is an 18-hole golf course with sweeping views of the vineyards. "We want to establish the vineyard as a new top vacation destination in Germany," Vladimir Saal has declared. With the high-quality offerings at Hofgut Wißberg, he is well on his way to achieving this goal.
Hofgut Wißberg – das Weinberghotel received two Great Wine Capitals Best of Wine Tourism Awards 2022: one in the national "Accommodation" category and the other in the international "People's Choice Award." The vineyard hotel impresses with its sustainable concept and great commitment.
