The protection of your personal data is very important to the Mainz Municipal Data Center. The following information explains how the Mainz Municipal Data Center handles personal data on the web, what anonymous user data the Mainz Municipal Data Center collects and evaluates, and how this information is used.
Normally, you can visit our website without providing any personal information. In some cases, however, we do need personal data from you. There are a number of reasons why you might decide to provide us with your personal data. For example, you may decide to give us personal data such as your name and address or email address so that we can correspond with you, provide a service, or process a newsletter subscription. If you provide us with information about third parties, such as spouses or relatives, we assume that you have obtained their prior consent.
The Mainz Municipal Data Center wants to provide you with a website that is as flawless as possible in terms of content, appearance, and technology. That is why we collect anonymous information from visitors to mainz.de, which helps us to improve our web service for you and tailor it to your needs.
The following sections describe how we use the personal data you have transmitted to us via the Internet, whether we share it with others, and if so, with whom. You can also read in detail about what anonymous visitor information we collect and evaluate for statistical purposes and how we do so.
Data
transmission Data that you enter directly into online forms (and only into these forms) on your PC is transmitted in encrypted form to the Mainz Municipal Data Center. In order to protect personal data entered into these forms from unauthorized access by third parties, all information is transmitted in encrypted form using 128-bit SSL (Secure Sockets Layer) encryption.
Emails are currently forwarded to the Mainz Municipal Data Center without additional encryption techniques. All information sent may therefore be viewed by third parties during transmission. The integrity of the data is not yet guaranteed. However, we are currently preparing technical and organizational measures to ensure this in the future.
For security reasons, you should therefore not send any passwords, credit card numbers, or other information that you wish to keep confidential. In such cases, we recommend that you use other means of transmission.
Data processing and storage
Personal data
We process and use personal data in our services in accordance with the provisions of data protection regulations.
The relevant legal basis is the German Telemedia Act (TMG). Insofar as personal data is collected, processed, and used within the scope of specialist applications of municipal offices and companies, the respective special legal regulations (e.g., Rhineland-Palatinate Registration Act, Social Security Code, Aliens Act) and/or the Rhineland-Palatinate Data Protection Act apply. We only store transmitted personal data for as long as is necessary for the use of the respective service offered by Mainz.de.
We process and use your personal data outside of the website only to the extent necessary for the fulfillment of tasks falling within the responsibility of the Mainz Municipal Data Center or as required by law. We do not pass on the data to non-public bodies.

Web statistics with open source software "Matomo"
We use the open-source software Matomo for statistical evaluation and analysis of our websites. We have deactivated the tracking cookies in Matomo so that no cookies are sent to your computer. Your IP address is sent to Matomo in anonymized form only.
Matomo only collects data that your browser transmits to our web server for technical reasons (see above under "Data collection by our websites"). The state capital of Mainz uses the analysis data to optimize the content and design of the website and thus better fulfill its information mandate. The legal basis for the processing of personal data is Art. 6 (1) e) GDPR in conjunction with § 3 LDSG.
