The heating plan is here - second citizens' forum in the Rheingoldhalle
On March 11, 2026, the second public forum on municipal heat planning (KWP) took place at the Rheingoldhalle in Mainz. Around 200 residents took the opportunity to review the finalized draft of Mainz’s heat plan, ask questions of experts from the trades and energy consulting sectors, and contribute to the participatory process.
Results of municipal heat planning
In addition to engaging in dialogue with Mainz residents, the evening focused on the presentation of the draft municipal heating plan for the state capital of Mainz. The plan outlines how Mainz intends to make its heating supply climate-neutral by 2040 at the latest—and ideally as early as 2035.

Exchange and participation at the theme market
Following the presentation, participants had the opportunity to discuss these and other topics with experts at various information booths:
- Results of the current status and potential analysis
- Target scenario and suitable areas for heat network expansion
- Measures and recommendations for the heat transition
- Opportunities to provide feedback during the public planning review
- Information and advice on heating technologies, building retrofits, and funding opportunities
- District heating options in Mainz
What happens next?
From March 2 to April 1, 2026, you had the opportunity to submit comments and feedback on the draft Municipal Heating Plan.
All comments received will now be reviewed, sorted by topic, and evaluated by experts. This process will determine which of your suggestions can be incorporated into the Municipal Heating Plan.
The results of the evaluation will be transparently documented—as soon as the evaluation is available, we will inform you here:
The Mainz heating plan is to be presented to the city council for approval on May 6, 2026.
