There are volunteer fire departments in the districts of Bretzenheim, Drais, Ebersheim, Finthen, Gonsenheim, Hechtsheim, Laubenheim, Marienborn, Mombach, Stadt-Mitte, and Weisenau. Like the professional fire department, these 11 units are equipped with various fire engines and personnel carriers, as well as rescue vehicles and specialized disaster response vehicles. All members of the volunteer fire department serve on a voluntary basis and prepare for emergency response during their free time through regular drills and training sessions. When an emergency occurs, the volunteer fire departments are alerted via pager simultaneously and without delay along with the professional fire department, provided the incident falls within the respective unit’s jurisdiction.
