The department advises architects, engineers, planners, and building occupants on the implementation of statutory fire safety regulations. In doing so, fire safety considerations—such as the fire water supply or the layout of escape and rescue routes—must be integrated into the overall design of a building and coordinated accordingly. As part of the building permit approval process, statements are prepared that describe whether a building’s fire safety is sufficient or whether it can only be ensured through additional measures. This early involvement in the planning phase creates optimal conditions for subsequent rescue and firefighting operations, benefiting not only the fire department’s emergency personnel but ultimately also the occupants and owners of the building.

Another important task is conducting fire prevention inspections in special structures, such as schools or hotels. Together with representatives from the building authority, the properties are inspected to ensure compliance with relevant fire safety regulations. If any deficiencies are identified, they are documented, and operators are required to rectify them.
