Before reporting blockages, you should ensure that they are not located on private property. The property owner is responsible for the pipes on the property up to the main sewer and is obliged to maintain them. If there is an inspection chamber, you can check whether the wastewater is still draining properly from the property and whether the blockage must be in the municipal network. If there is an inspection chamber, it is usually located on the property or as an inspection shaft in the building (for example, in the basement or connection room). It should be accessible at all times.
Precise information about the location of the blockage makes it easier to clear. The following information is important when reporting a blockage:
- Name, address, and callback number of the person reporting the blockage
- Details of the location of the blockage (street, house number),
- if possible, describe the exact location.
Up to two weeks, depending on the amount of work involved.
If the problem is caused by the building, i.e., the internal drainage system, you can contact Mainz Public Utilities by phone or email.
