CinéMayence

The entrance to the movie theater on Schillerplatz

The Mainz Communal Cinema

CinéMayence is Mainz's municipal cinema and is run by AG Stadtkino e. V., a non-profit association of film and media professionals supported by the state capital of Mainz. As a municipal cinema, CinéMayence is not a commercial enterprise, but rather a cultural institution for film enthusiasts and a civic meeting place for anyone interested in discussing film and media.

The CinéMayence program focuses primarily on international cinema and classic films – whether premieres or films that have never been shown in Mainz before but have made cinema history. The program ranges from silent films to digital media presentations. CinéMayence shows films of all genres and types, such as documentaries, feature films, short films, and animated films – in many cases in their original version or in the original language with German subtitles.

Many film screenings are complemented by a supporting program of introductions, lectures, or post-film discussions with filmmakers and experts. The cinema has 85 seats and is located next to the Institut français Mainz in the Schönborner Hof on Schillerplatz.
